Stages of operational Research

Stages of operational Research

Operational research uses statistical techniques for deriving a solution of the problem, and then management skills are used to make appropriate decision. Operational research can be divided into following stages

1.    Problem Definition

Problem definition is a critical stage of operational research. Any mistake or careless approach in this stage would produce inaccurate results/outcome.

2.     Model Construction

A mathematical model is constructed on the bases of defined problem. Model can be functional or mathematical.

3.     Data Collection

Decision need information, without information, no effective decision can be made in the business world.

4.    Deriving Solution

Next stage is deriving the solution using the collected data or facts. Some model provides you solution like linear programming, other model you need to derive the solutions.

5.    Solution Interpretation

Next stage is solution interpretations and testing. Solution is tested in real environment for its objectivity. Some adjustment may be required in the model on the bases of testing.

6.    Implementation of Solution

Solution is implemented after testing and required adjustment.

7.    Review & Maintain

Operational research is ongoing process and solution should be regularly reviewed and updated, otherwise system will be outdated with the passage of time.
